What’s hot in the decorating scene this fall? If you’ve been around long enough you’ll spot some familiar trends done in a new way (hello, seventies!) and some timeless classics (see numbers 4 and 5). Maybe one of them is just what you didn’t know your home needed—until now.
1. EARTHY COLORS WITH A 70’S VIBE
Some say this trend came out of COVD when many of us craved a relaxed environment. Or maybe it’s simply due to people with fond memories of the seventies feeling nostalgic. Whatever the reason, seventies’ colors and furniture styles are back with an updated twist, like the wallpaper pictured (from Lulu and Georgia). If you’re really into retro, vintage pieces from the seventies can add a little instant history to a modern space and make it feel homier.
2. CURVED SILHOUETTES
While we’ve all admired the look of furniture with razor-sharp lines shown in design magazines, have you ever tried to get comfortable on it? This fall, leave the sharp edges behind and cozy up to curves that hug your body in a welcoming way while softening any space.
3. WOOD IN NATURAL/DARK FINISHES
Move over, white lacquer and blonde wood. Natural and dark brown finishes are back, bringing a touch of the outside to our interior spaces. Darker hues add warmth, which is perfect for fall but will still feel good the rest of the year.
4. CHECKERBOARD PATTERNS
When we say a checkerboard pattern is timeless, we mean it: everyone from the ancient Greeks and Romans to the Victorians to…well, everyone…has used it in one form or another. We say if it was good enough for Julius Caesar and Queen Victoria, it’s good enough for us!
5. JEWEL TONES
Here’s another trend that’s here to stay. HGTV.com advises us to “Go all in on the trend….” because “Dramatic emerald, sapphire, ruby and citrine applied with luxury velvet or jacquard textiles will always create a statement in fall and winter design.”
